Krantz - Asia-Pacific

Krantz Komponenten in Germany is an international leader in the design, manufacture and supply of specialised air diffusion products, such as ceiling swirl diffusers, floor swirl diffusers, displacement diffusers, eyeball nozzles and induction outlets, as well as of chilled systems, including passive chilled beams, active chilled beams and both radiant and convective chilled ceilings, and of clean room products, such as operating theatre outlets, laminar flow diffusers, HEPA filter diffusers, and fan assisted terminal units.

Since 1882 Krantz Komponenten has led the HVAC industry with leading edge products, expert technical advice, and industry firsts, such as the invention of the swirl diffuser. The swirl diffuser (also known as the twist outlet or vortex diffuser), which is characterised by a highly inductive swirling discharge pattern, was first used for installation in ceilings, but rapidly grew to an extensive range of high induction swirl diffusers designed for a variety of applications including TV studios, sports facilities, underfloor air distribution systems, and applications requiring manual, electric or self-powered thermal actuator discharge direction adjustment. Side-blow swirl diffusers for long throws and with adjustability of throw and direction were later added to the palette, as were the world’s quietest long throw eyeball nozzles (suitable for TV studios and concert halls), eyeball nozzles with swirl discharge, and eyeball nozzles with self-powered, thermally actuated, adjustable discharge direction. Krantz forged the way in introducing swirl diffuser systems and other high induction air distribution technologies to Europe and also to the Pacific – first to New Zealand and Australia, and then to the rest of the Asia-Pacific region. Krantz also developed a range of low temperature (less than 10°C supply) VAV swirl diffusers specifically for the Asia-Pacific region’s five and six Green Star rated sustainability buildings – a highly successful swirl diffuser range that is aesthetically pleasing and that provides both enhanced levels of comfort (ADPI > 90%) and high indoor air quality (ACE ~ 1).

Krantz has for many years led the international HVAC industry in underfloor air distribution systems for commercial offices. Krantz has the most extensive range of floor swirl diffusers available, including floor swirl diffusers with horizontal displacement discharge, floor swirl diffusers with vertical discharge, floor swirl diffusers with diagonally directed discharge and with directional adjustment, as well as variable face area floor swirl diffusers with adjustability of airflow rate, direction and pattern. This wide range of floor swirl diffusers allows enhanced levels of comfort to be achieved no matter what the underfloor air diffuser application, and indoor air quality levels are always enhanced (ACE > 1), being well above those achievable with mixed airflow in the entire space.

Krantz also offers displacement diffusers for commercial applications, which like their floor swirl diffuser counterparts, offer high comfort levels and enhanced indoor air quality (ACE > 1). Commercial displacement diffusers include rectangular displacement, round displacement, semi-circular displacement, ceiling displacement, wall displacement, parapet displacement and floor displacement diffusers.

Krantz’s wide range of industrial displacement diffusers – that produce plug-flow air distribution for enhanced indoor air quality in industrial applications and workspaces – has been developed over many years and is the most extensive in the world. The industrial displacement diffuser range includes diffusers with fixed discharge direction as well as adjustable discharge direction (by means of manual adjustment, electric adjustment, and temperature differential self-powered thermal element adjustment). Krantz industrial displacement diffusers were the first to be used in New Zealand and Australia, and its highly specialised motorised industrial displacement diffusers for the aeronautical industry are the only displacement diffusers used by Airbus in its manufacturing facilities in Hamburg, Germany, and in Tianjin, China.

Krantz displacement and microclimate solutions for auditoria have been installed extensively worldwide, on land and sea, and include the first in-seat induction systems used in auditoria both in Australia and New Zealand. Krantz has numerous references with step displacement diffusers, seat displacement diffusers, floor displacement swirl diffusers, and under-seat swirl diffusers (step and floor mounted) in assembly spaces such as concert halls, performing arts theatres, cinemas, lecture theatres and many other assembly halls throughout Australasia.

For clean room applications, Krantz has developed a range of HEPA filter terminal units and filter fan units that have swirl diffusers to produce swirl discharge, perforated diffusers with special discharge patterns that prevent diffuser and ceiling smudging, and diffusers that create laminar flow purging of contaminants from the workspace and from the operating table in operating theatres.

As the sustainability benefits of water systems grew, Krantz expanded its product range to include passive chilled beam, one-way blow active chilled beam, two-way blow active chilled beam, radiant chilled ceiling and convective chilled ceiling systems, which it has supplied to Europe since the early 1980’s. It has spearheaded the introduction of these to the tropics by assisting with the design and supplying this technology to the first passive chilled beam project in Malaysia. Krantz has, additionally, developed numerous strategies for applying chilled beam technologies in high-humidity regions, such as the equatorial regions.

Krantz’s extensive laboratory facilities in Aachen, Germany, in which smoke, thermal, comfort, indoor air quality and acoustical testing can be conducted on products and on full-scale project mock-ups, facilitates German engineering to perform at its best in developing and testing products and solutions for the future. Krantz’s smaller testing facility in Sydney, Australia, which is often used for commercial office mock-up tests, allows much testing for the Asia-Pacific region to be conducted closer to home. These laboratories, coupled with Krantz’s unrivalled expertise both in Europe and Australasia, ensure that the leading role that it has played in bringing innovative and unique HVAC solutions to the market will continue well into the future and with ever increasing emphasis on sustainable design.
